@Roger Wilco For sure, starting out with well less than a full charge created avoidable problems that skewed the entire experience.

@JR B New super capacitor and other battery types can be recharged in 10 minutes as well, they just haven't been gotten into production models yet:

@Bruce Baxter wrong, been to florida 6 times, 918miles one way, 14.5 hours three people and even with only two. Pee, gas and food breaks and the best part, we did not search for a charging station.

Joe Grant You must be from California, Out of that state you tow the speed limit. In Texas we can tow at 80mph. Nice 400 mile stretch between El Paso & San Antonio. Hopefully you don’t run out of electricity out there = you are out of luck.

Yeah I think the issue is not really the vehicle. But the ridicules distances you have to travel in the united states. I mean. The longest distance possible to drive in my country(Netherlands) is like 350-380 kilometers. And charge stations are literately everywhere. And even in Germany/France it's special to drive those kind of ranges.

How many years did it take to get the gas powered automobile and it's infrastructure to where it is today? How many years did it take to get from a copper and zinc battery to a lithium ion battery? The simple fact that you can pull a trailer with a battery is simply amazing. The only lesson to be learned here is patience.

Moral of this story? DON'T USE A CAR TO TOW A 4,000+LB TRAILER AND DON'T OFFROAD A CAR. These guys are trying to say not to get this truck while comparing it to a car that was never designed to tow heavy trailers long distance. While I do think the cybertruck is a dumb idea, what the model X was able to do in those videos is actually very impressive. Able to pull a 4k trailer up a steep incline and keep pace with traffic is impressive by itself. I'd say redo your tests when the cybertruck is out and see what it can actually do.

A trailer actually made from the manufacturer that has essentially the same battery capacity of the vehicle itself in the bottom of the trailer would help.

Elon musk is a genius at suckering people into buying this junk. You would be better off scrapping the copper in the motors. That's the only return you will get on your investment.

This is not news. I've known about this flaw maybe even before you were born. I just didn't have YouTube as a forum. Also people were buffaloed into believing electric cars were viable. Nobody addresses the toxic environmental impact of disposing of all these batteries. One pollution traded for another.

A much more informative video on the topic:
TLDR: The takeaway is that electric vehicles are at least 5 times as efficient as internal combustion ones. This together with instant plentiful torque makes them a much better platform for towing in the future. Not today, because energy density of batteries is poor compared to that of gasoline/diesel. Battery technology will continue to improve to the point where you will be able to fit a battery in an electric vehicle that can hold just (over) one fifth of the energy in a gas tank and have a vehicle capable of travelling the same distance while towing. Overall experience will be much better due to instant plentiful torque, silence etc etc.

Wow! What a revelation! Electric car designed for highway cruising is not good for off roading in the wilderness. Up to this moment I was planning a three months trip in the Himalayas towing 5 Ton trailer. Turns out that is impossible. Thank you geniuses for stating the obvious. So instead of Tesla X now I am considering to use my Rolls Royce or my Porsche Boxter for towing. Would you advice me if the is a good idea or not. Somehow I can't figure this out on my own.

electric cars are the biggest rubbish of this century. They are NOT clean. your points are valid, but needless to say that this is not the intended purpous for those vehicles.. same goes for the cybertruck.. these vehicles are merely having the appearance of a certain car category in order for some people who would not utilize the potential of said category anyhow, to be able to choose an all electric version.

How many people buy a truck and actually use it more like a normal car on a day to day basis?! I am guessing a lot. For people who use their trucks as intended work horses there is absolutely nothing wrong with buying and using such a big vehicle. But for all these "live style" pickup truck drivers out there who are just guzzling away without rhyme or reason, the cybertruck could actually be an alternative way since it should be more ecofriendly while having the appearance. at least this is my understanding for these types of vehicles.

Sounds like when you want to charge you pull into a charge station to find 50 different chargers with only one of which might suit your vehicle, but what if you have charge type 51 then you can't charge.

There needs to be a standard for charging so they can put in a charger that works for all vehicles.

As for the problem of off road use take a small generator for those times when you might get stuck somewhere, that way you can still get some charge for you car in an emergency.

That's certainly not the case with a 4,500lb. trailer. A 4,500 lb. trailer is less than the weight of Tesla Model X you were using to pull it.
Comparing to an HD pickup that's towing its maximum rated trailer weight isn't apples-to-apples either, because it would be pulling more than twice its own weight.

Did I mention I only spent 13k on it and the insurance is dirt cheap? I'm not buying a truck where I risk fire and explosion going up granma's driveway and have to drag a generator with me. SUGGESTION: air suspension to raise it for real ground clearance and an Aux Power Unit to charge the batteries just in case of range miscalculations.
